This is probably the most complicated type of site to build and maintain. What we typically do is take an application that a business has been using in house and webify it. By that we mean expose the internal business application thru the web, so that different physical locations can accesses the same application thru the browser. The biggest benefit of this type of application is it greatly reduces the amount of effort and cost of maintenance. Another benefit that can be realized is consolidation of many independent databases into one central database.
