April 18, 2004 Apple Tree Grafting
|
Apple scions are prepared for grafting
to root stock of established trees in orchard.
|
The cambium (inner green bark layer) of the scion is
aligned with the cambium of the root stock.
|
Wax is applied to protect grafted areas. |

|

The tree at the right has knuckle where the root stock
meets an established graft. This tree was grafted approximately 7 years
ago. |
 |
The scions above are from the Crawfords of Akin-Bak
farm in Franklin Mass.
This variety of apple was developed by them and named Sweet Sue after their
granddaughter.
It is a favorite apple of many Franklin residents.
